By: Gaston Saidman
The Israel-Cyprus Chamber of Commerce is one of the most active in promoting economic relations between Cyprus and Israel. The Chamber is very active in the commercial and diplomatic spheres and maintains close contact with the embassy and the Ministry of Commerce.
On Wednesday, July 9, the Israel-Cyprus Chamber of Commerce held a luncheon with the Ambassador of Cyprus, Mr. Korneliou S. Kornelious, and the Economic Affairs Attaché, Mr. Sophronis Papageorgiou, at the Salon Yevani restaurant in Herzliya.
This event is no longer just a networking meeting; it is held annually and presents Chamber reports and current trade news between the two countries.
During the luncheon, the Chamber emphasized the importance of the friendship between the parties, especially during the past two years, which have been challenging for Israel. Therefore, it is important to clarify that this has not affected trade relations, and businesspeople have continued with their initiatives and business projects.

Chamber CEO, Eran Cohen, emphasized the close relationship between Israel and Cyprus thanks to the work of the current ambassador, whose successful appointment reflects the intensive work he has been doing for two years under the pressure of the current situation and Israel’s status in the world. However, as CEO Eran Cohen says: “Today, the commercial ties between the two countries are stronger than ever, and this is just the beginning. We see this in sectors such as tourism, real estate, and soon also in the gas sector, where significant investment projects are expected in the future.”
Chamber President, Mr. Leon Amiras, summed up the event as follows: “It was an exciting meeting, attended by the Cypriot Ambassador to Israel and his commercial attaché. The goal was to continue the warm relations between Israel and Cyprus, with the intention of not only promoting the real estate sector but also strengthening ties in the fields of high-tech, gas, hospitality, and healthcare. The aim is to enable Cypriot patients to receive medical services in Israel or allow Israeli doctors to intern or work in modern hospitals in Cyprus. It was an excellent meeting between business leaders from both countries, where I believe many future plans were made.”
